Starting a GLP-1 medication is an adjustment — for both your body and your routine. Here's what's normal, what to watch for, and what to do if something doesn't feel right.
The first 1–2 weeks
Most patients start at 0.25mg weekly. At this dose, appetite suppression is often mild or not yet noticeable — this is intentional. The starting dose is designed to let your body adjust, not to produce immediate results. Common early experiences include:
Mild nausea, especially after eating large meals
Feeling full faster than usual
Occasional fatigue or mild headache
Slight injection site redness or tenderness
These are normal and typically improve within 1–2 weeks as your body adjusts.
Weeks 3–4
By the end of your first month, most patients begin to notice reduced appetite and some early weight changes. Results vary by individual. If you feel nothing at all, that's also common at the starting dose — the stronger effects typically come as the dose increases in months 2–5.
What's NOT normal — contact your provider if you experience:
Severe or persistent nausea or vomiting
Severe abdominal pain
Signs of an allergic reaction (rash, difficulty breathing, swelling)
Rapid heart rate that doesn't resolve
Log into your account and send a message through the secure patient dashboard if any of these occur. For emergencies, call 911.
Will I lose weight in the first month?
Some patients do, some don't. The first month is about tolerability and establishing the habit — meaningful weight loss typically accelerates as the dose increases in months 2–5. If you're concerned about your progress, send a message through the patient dashboard.
